Question and Answers

Q:

my two year old refrigerator just started making a strange sound when the compressor turns on. I am leaving the house for a week, could this be a safety risk?

A:

Refrigerators can certainly make some strange noises. I found a previous expert post that has a possible cause for a clicking noise. This may not be the same but I attached it below if you wish to check. I also added a great article on how to maintain our refrigerators to keep them working well. Hope this helps while you wait for the expert answer.

I can understand your concern. The information you have received is good but it may not be the noise that you are hearing. It's not unusual for a compressor to make a strange noise when it starts. It can be a normal noise that you are hearing. It would also be very unlikely that the sound you hear would be a safety risk.

However, you can have a technician check it to verify for sure and if there is a problem with the compressor internally, it would be repaired under warranty. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful and I will be glad to assist you further. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
