Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't the refrigerator section cool properly?

A:

When the drain was plugged it caused the water to run into the refrigerator during a defrost cycle. By clearing the drain the water can now run back through the drain system. During this time the return air vent may have gotten iced up also. If this happened, the air flow to the refrigerator section will be greatly reduced, which will result in poor cooling. The best way to determine if the return vent is restricted or closed is to check the air flow from the diffuser, with the freezer door closed then open. If there is little to no air flow with the freezer door closed but good or improved air flow with the door open, it indicates the vent is plugged. This can be a difficult job even for a technician especially if the freezer floor and divider have to be removed. Another alternative would be to turn the unit off for awhile and allow the ice to thaw out. If you need more assistance you can resubmit your question with more details.
