Q:

Freezer Temperature GSS25JETAWW Ge Refrigerator t series

A:

Thank you for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com. I am sorry to hear about the temp issue you are experiencing in the freezer, I know how frustrating that is.

Since the freezer is still somewhat cool, it sounds like the compressor is coming on appropriately and working to the best of it's ability. It sounds as if the freezer thermostat is not working properly, not telling the compressor how much cool air to bring in. I suspect that will be our issue here.

The thermostat you should look at is key 241 on the freezer section schematic. It's the one that tells the compressor how much cool air to bring in. Since the refrigerator is maintaining it's temp, it sounds like all is well there. I would recommend replacing the freezer thermostat and that should solve the problem.

For convenience purposes, I have included a blue link below that you may click on to be directed to the PartsDirect page to view and purchase the thermostat.

I understand your concern why it won't defrost. When you say the control board was replaced, if you mean the display control board, it doesn't control the defrost system. It's actually only a receiver board. The main board # WR55X10942 located behind the unit, controls all the functions. This will be the most likely reason why it's not defrosting. Now if this is the board that was replaced, the problem will be an open heating element or sensor.

To check the element, first disconnect power to the unit. Now everything in the freezer will need to be taken out, so the back panel can be removed. Now disconnect the wires to the element and check the resistance of the heater # WR51X10055. If there is no reading at all, the element will need to be replaced. If you do get a reading, the element will be ok. The other component in the defrost circuit will be the sensor # WR55X10025. This is the sensor mounted to the evaporator. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, additional details will be helpful. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Why won't the freezer defrost?

A:

If ice cream is getting too hard, I'm thinking this might be more of an air flow problem, instead of a defrost problem. When a unit stops defrosting the temperature will get warmer not colder. This model can be put into a diagnostic mode that will help determine what is happening (I'm sending you the diagnostic chart). If there is a heavy frost build-up in the freezer on the back wall then it's not defrosting. This will be very unusual with the hard ice cream. In diagnostic, if the element does come on, replace the control board # 8201661, it’s not advancing. It's available at www.searspartsdirect.com . Also check the damper while in the diagnostic mode. Make sure the damper door opens and closes. If you need more assistance you can resubmit your question with more details.
