Question and Answers

Q:

Warm Temps in Fridge & Freezer, plus Frost in GSS23WSTASS GE Refrigerator T series GSS23WSTASS

A:

Thank you for your inquiry on your Ge Refrigerator, Model: GSS23WSTASS. From reviewing the details on your model, on something like this I recommend removing the freezer rear panel & inspecting the evaporator coil & freezer fan so we can see how our sealed system & air flow is working, if the compressor is running. If the compressor is not running we need to check the voltage with a meter coming from the control board going to the compressor. Once you get the rear panel off if you see the evaporator completely iced/frosted up this is a sign of a defrost cycle failure. If the evaporator does not have a frost pattern this is a sign of a compressor or sealed system failure. Be sure to check both fans. The freezer fan & condenser fan both have to be running whenever the compressor is running.

Safety Warning: Before beginning the repair, disconnect the direct power supply to the refrigerator to prevent the risk of injury or any electrical shock.

If you don’t feel comfortable or confident in this repair, then you can have it repaired at home by a sears technician. I have the included a link to the website: Sears Home Services or call 1-800-469-4663.

I hope this answered your question. Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com, and have yourself a wonderful day.

Q:

no water GSS23WSTASS Ge Refrigerator t series

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your refrigerator. Upon researching model GSS23WSTASS; it sounds like the water valve may need to be replaced. The water valve is a dual valve that has an inlet for the refrigerator dispenser and one for the icemaker so when it fails it can cause one of the two features not to work. I have posted a link of the valve to view the link click here.

I trust this information will help you, we appreciate your business thank for choosing Sears.

Q:

evop coil frozen GSS23WSTASS Ge Refrigerator t series

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

The relay board, or defrost timer, is controlled by the main control board, which is located at the back bottom of the refrigerator inside of the cover. The part number is WR55X10942. Also part of the defrost is the thermostat, part number WR50X10068, which is located at the top of the evaporator coil. At the bottom of the evaporator coil is the heater assembly, part number WR51X10101.

The defrost issue could be coming from any three of these parts, which would need to be tested with a meter to confirm which is at fault. Unless you have extensive experience testing electrical components, we recommend having a service technician assist.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-349-5071, or

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
