Question and Answers

Q:

GSD640L-20 Dishwasher, manual

A:

I know how important it is to have a good working dishwasher in the home so that the dishes can be cleaned with less work. I was unable to find an owners manual for your appliance since the appliance is a little over twenty years. I am adding a link that will provide you with some good information to help you with your question. I hope my link helps!

Hi Robert,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life. I know how frustrating it can be when appliances do not function properly.

I no longer have access to the manuals for a dishwasher of this age. I am sending a manual for a dishwasher that is similar to this one, to the e-mail address you used when you registered on Manage My Life. This dishwasher may not be exactly like yours, but should be similar.

The only disassembly instructions I have are on a similar model (see images below). They are not this exact dishwasher, but should give you a reference.

I recommend cleaning the sump assembly and spray arm parts. Check the pump for wear and tear.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram and for parts purchases; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Thanks again for using Manage My Life.

It took a while for me to return to work on the dishwasher but only 3 hours to fix it using Landell's information. The float switch housing was full of lint, the filter clogged, and there was a piece of plastic from a hairbrush or comb, lint and string, diverting water in the spray arm hub. Most of the time was spent cleaning the parts covered in black greasy mud and lint. Feeling the soft food cutter too often with a finger was a mistake but the cut healed quickly. I used the test method I found in another manual ie 4 cups in the corners of the top rack, 4 more in the bottom and verified that everything is now working well. The cup method also allowed me to check how clean the machine was, there was minor debris in the cups for the first two cycles. Thank you for the guidance, buying a new machine was out of the question. Robert
