I have a GE Nautilus dishwasher Model Number GSD2200G02WW that will not drain.

  1. If a dishwasher is creating too many suds, the drain pump will pump out the water, but will not be able to drain the suds out. Excessive suds conditions are caused by multiple things, mostly using too much Detergent or Rinse Aid.
  2. A drain hose is most likely to clog where it connects to the sink drain, house drain, garbage disposal or air gap.
    1. To check for a clogged Drain Hose:
  • Materials Needed: Old towels, to mop up any spilled water, a screw driver or pliers, to remove the hose clamps and a bright light source, to inspect the drain hose thoroughly.
    • Loosen the hose clamp where the hose is being checked.
    • Remove the drain hose from the connection.
    • Check the drain port on the sink, disposal or air gap.
    • Check the drain hose opening for blockage.
    • A kink can occur anywhere in the drain hose and most likely after the dishwasher has recently been installed or moved in and out from under the cabinet.
Note: If the drain hose is damaged, it will need to be replaced, to prevent leaks.
  • The most common places hoses get kinked are:
    • Where excess hose is coiled behind the dishwasher
    • Where the drain hose comes through the cabinet opening
    • Where the drain hose connects at the sink, or disposal
  • To prevent kinks:
    • Make sure to carefully store the excess drain hose while pushing the dishwasher under the counter top. **In some cases, the excess hose can be trimmed to eliminate excess hose.
    • Make sure the hose is supported and bends are not too sharp.
  1. The dishwasher drains into the house plumbing, so if the house plumbing is clogged, it will affect the ability of the dishwasher to drain.
    1. The dishwasher drain line normally connects to the kitchen sink, or the garbage disposal.
  • To check for a clogged house drain, or garbage disposal at the sink:
    • Turn the water on in the sink and let it run.
    • If the drain is clear water will not back up, if water backs up the drain is clogged or partially clogged.
    • Turn the Garbage Disposal on, it may be full of food and need to be cleared.
Note: If the sink is still not draining properly, it is a plumbing issue and a licensed plumber is needed. A plumbing issue is not related to the dishwasher.
