Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The model number provided is not a correct or valid model number. I will assume it was not read correctly and the correct model number is GS563LXSS1 based on the part number you provided. Part number W10116544 is the electronic oven control for the models listed below.

  • GS563LXSB1
  • GS563LXSQ1
  • GS563LXSS1
  • GS563LXST1

I do not have a clear understanding of the symptom you describe as "the controls not responding."

If the control panel is dead; meaning no led's will come on when any button is pushed, it could have a faulty electronic oven control or it could have shorted/faulty touch panel/membrane switch.

The electronic oven control can be accessed and replaced from the rear of the range. Disconnect the power cord from the power source and then remove the panel from behind the control panel to access the electronic oven control board. The control board is likely fastened to a bracket with 2-4 screws. Disconnect one wire at time from the old control and transfer it to the new control and make sure you connect it to the matching terminal. Each terminal should be labeled.

It will be difficult to say which one is faulty and I strongly suggest having technician come out and diagnose the failure. The oven control board and the touch panel are expensive so I strongly suggest calling service and it could save you money.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about the Whirlpool Range. I am so sorry to hear the glass top broke. I can understand wanting to know if repairing the range would be worthwhile. I will be happy to help you with this.

The range is definitely repairable. And it would be a simple repair. The glass top comes already in the frame. I have included the parts diagram for the cooktop so that you can see what I mean. The cooktop is key 4 in the diagram.

Cooktop parts diagram for Whirlpool Electric Range model GR563LXSS1.

The repair is cost effective as opposed to buying a new range. I was able to pull up the sales information for this model. It sold for over $900.00 back in 2008. To purchase a comparable model today it would be well over $1,000.00. This model came in white, black and biscuit. Depending on the color of your range, the repair will be about a third of the cost to repace it. Since I am not sure of the color of your range, I have included the link for all three colors of the cooktop.

White cooktop for Whirlpool range model GR563LXSS1.
Black cooktop for Whirlpool range model GR563LXSS1.
Biscuit cooktop for Whirlpool Range model GR563LXSS1.

The smooth top does require regular maintenance. I have included the cleaning kit for you also. It includes the cleaning cream, the cleaning pad and the scraper.

If I can be of further assistance, please respond to this thread. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

Hi Linda, Thank you for the swift response. I'm confused by your accessment. In an earlier conversations I was quoted $175.00 by one gentleman. I'm going to say he works in service, from his egerness to include warrinty. After deciding we'd install it, he transfered me to parts. There I was quoted $245.65, this is for the glass replacement in black. The heating elements are still in tact. So I'd like to know if your price includes installation. Thank you for your time, Brenda

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com back with your questions about the pricing on the parts for your range. I apologize for the confusion. The first price you were quoted of $175.00 by service is most likely the technician charge. That would be in addition to the cost of the part. Adding a protection agreement to the range would cover labor charges and parts on future repairs. The parts must have failed through normal use. Damage such as in this case, (dropping something on the cooktop) would not be covered, but you would get a 25% discount on the price of the part.

The prices I showed you online are the prices of the parts themselves, without installation. Because of the price difference between what I have listed online and the price you were quoted, I did a little research into this for you. I am glad you checked back with me. Our associate in the parts department offered you the lowest price we can sell the part under our price matching service.  It is a new service we provide to make the repair as cost effective for you as possible.  In order to get that price, you would need to place the order over the phone at 1-800-366-7278 or by chatting with our chat associates at SearsPartsDirect.com. I have included the link for you to chat.

The lowest price can change depending on several factors, so to take advantage of this low price, the sooner you place the order the better.

I hope this answers your questions, and again I apologize for the confusion. If I can be of any further assistance, please let me know. I want to thank you again for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.
