Based on your symptoms, you probably have a short in the burner switch, wiring or the control module that is contacting a metal ground inside the cook top. I posted a wiring diagram for that cooktop in the image below. If you want to fix this type of problem yourself, you can shut off the house circuit breaker for the cook top (or leave it shut off) and pull the cook top out of the counter. You will need to remove the burner box below the cook top and check those wiring connections on the front left burner. You may find a loose or broken wire. If not, then you may find some burn marks around the burner switch. If that burner switch is bad, then the entire wire harness and switch assembly will need to be replaced. You can order that part from this page: Wire Harness and Burner Switches for Whirlpool Gold Cooktop GLT3057RB01 . Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breaker for the cooktop before accessing and replacing internal components.

If the wiring harness and switches are all okay, then you may need to replace the spark module.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .
