Q:

Dryer squeaks & squeals loudly during drying cycles. How to correct this? GLEH1642FS1 Frigidaire Laundry center

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect. I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your dryer is making a loud noise during cycles. I did look into the model number you have provided and I have found information to assist you.

A common cause for the unit to squeal and squeak is the rear drum support bearing. The bearing drys out or wears out and causes the squeal.

There are other possible causes, in which, are the front supports, the idler wheel or the motor itself, and the belt.

In some cases something has jammed between the drum and frame which makes a grinding noise.

Click here to view the drum support bearing.

Click here for the belt- it will say it is for the washer, but I have confirmed and double checked that it is for the dryer. Our team is working on the name change.

I have attached a photo to assist you in getting to the pulley and belt.

In order to determine which part  you need to replace you will need to disassemble the unit.

Click here for more information on the squeaking.

I changed the shocks and the washer drum still is wobbling and shaking and making thumping sound when spinning. Could it be the bearings.

Thank you for the additional information and since the absorber are usually the item that will cause that the only other part that moves and will cause will cause noises if the drum bearing. The drum has a ball that turns in a support and that will sometimes becoming dry and noisy.  The banging sound that you were hearing was most likely due to a loss in the drum support. This has three arms that attach to the spin basket. If the bolt that holds the arm to the basket has come off this will the banging sound.  The image below show you how to remove the washer top to check the support. If this is the cause then the spin basket will need to be replaced. Check your owner's manual to confirm but the spin basket is usually under a 20yr limited warranty. I would also recommend that you check the bearing, but this is a very complicated repair so I would recommend that you schedule service. If you would like to do so, just click on this link: Sears Home Services . I hope this helps. If you have further questions please resubmit your question for further information.
