Question and Answers

Q:

I have a range model#GLEFS76ASE. The broiler heating element caught fire and broke. Is it safe for me to simply replace the heating element?

A:

It is not abnormal for the broil or bake element to go out in flames when it goes bad. Nothing caused it to go bad other than use and age. When a oven element burns out/shorts out it can sometimes cause the oven control to fail. NOTE: Disconnect the power supply from the range before removing and replacing the broil element. If you have experience and feel safe and confident in checking voltage I recommend checking the voltage supply to the broil element before disconnecting the wires from the broil element and replacing it. If voltage is present when you select broil then all you need to replace is the broil element. The broil element is part #316203200 which is available at Sears Parts Direct .
