Question and Answers

Q:

I have a GE dishwasher. The door is hyper-extended, so that it is not level, but hangs down. Is the hinge the problem? If so, how do I replace it?

A:

I'm sure you'll be able to do that repair yourself and yes, the hinge was probably damaged from the over extension.  I was able to locate a video on a different model number.  Your expert will likely respond with information that is more model specific.   Click here to view the link.  Though this link discusses a different model number,
the mechanics are likely going to be very similar. Keep in mind that an expert will be
responding within the next two business days if not sooner and will likely offer you more information and
instruction. I hope this information will be helpful and have a nice day.

Thank you for your question. Dishwasher doors do seem to hang down at some point in their life. This may be the hinges.  A visual inspection will reveal if they look bent.  I suspect this is the side spring that needs adjustment or possibly replacement. See key #30 in the image below.  First disconnect power to the dishwasher. This will entail removing the toe panel. Remove the lower front metal piece.  The spring connection will have one end at the door panel and one below visible from the toe panel. If the spring appears loose or worn, replace. If it just needs adjustment, use the directions in the image.  Parts can be ordered at Sears Parts Direct .  If further assistance is needed, please reply.  Thank you for using Manage My Life.
