Question and Answers

Q:

What would cause my GE dishwasher to not fill with any water?

A:

Your dishwasher does not have a demo mode. If you dishwasher is brand new and still under warranty, I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your GE dishwasher.

The water level should be the center of the bottom of the float dome. You should first check to see if the float which is hidden under the float dome is stuck in the up position or not. You will need to remove the float dome cover in order to check the float or remove the lower access panel to check the float switch operation. If the float dome is not in the full down position, the dishwasher will not fill with water. You should hear a faint click when you raise and lower the float dome. If you hear the faint click, the float switch is likely OK. You will need to remove the lower access panel and check the voltage supply to the water inlet valve in order to diagnose a fill valve failure, float switch failure or a control board failure. NOTE: I do not recommend checking voltages unless you have experience and you feel safe and confident in doing so, otherwise I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dishwasher.

I added a couple of images of the technical data sheet below. This should provide you with the information needed to diagnose the failure.

thanks for your quick response. I did contact dealer and the warranty is valid. They diagnosed it to the fill valve. A new one is on order. Thanks again.

Q:

How do we get the drain strainer back in place in our dishwasher?

A:

To make this more clear to you go to www.sears.com and select parts. Enter your model number and select “body parts”.

I assume you are talking about item 506. There is probably a plastic pipe running over the top of it when everything is in place. Pull the upper rack out part way and disconnect the plastic pipe from the mount on the rear of the tub and move it to one side. Pull the lower wash arm up and off its mount and set it aside. Slide the plastic pipe out of the mount for the lower wash arm and move it over so you can put the strainer back on its mount.

If you are talking about a different part look in the parts description and get its name and send another question and we will try to help you.
