Ice maker problems with the Whirlpool GI5SVAXVL01 GI5SVAXVL01

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I will be more than happy to assist you. I can understand any frustration you may have experienced with regards to your unit. Let’s see what we can do for you.

A lot of the time it’s the matter of the freezer not getting cold enough. I would check the temp of the freezer and make sure that it’s getting below the temp of freezing. The Freezing temp for the water would be 32 degrees.  If the temperature is alright then I would check the whole icemaker, and see if the water is going into the ice chamber.

Hope this information has helped you. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can click here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663. Again, thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com.

I don't think it is the temperature because as an interim fix we would buy a bag of ice and put the ice in the bin so it could spit that out for us. Although that would give us ice, it got old quickly; but the temperature kept it as ice. I will put a half full bottle of water in there tonight and see if it is ice in the morning. After replacing the solenoid (because I could hear the valve open and allow water into the ice-tray), I still don't hear it working (even after 24 hours). I think it might be something in the control unit not getting power to the valve. Has anyone heard of any existing issues with this model of fridge?
