Geoff - There is a Shop Manual for this series of washers at:

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/eab852a13fbc842085256aa200643dd6/$FILE/Duet%20Job%20Aid.pdf

This is not for your exact model but should be close enough for your purposes.

As for other suggestions - check the electrical connections as per the manual.

Good Luck

I understand how difficult it can be to nail down the root cause of an error like this. The link provided by Yadira provides the correct information for this fault. You could have a failed MCU (motor control unit) or a bad CCU (central control unit). You could also have a failed wiring harness or a wire harness connection problem. It is likely the MCU, but the only way to nail down that component as the only cause is to do complete electrical checks. You have done the right thing in setting service and it is a good idea to have the MCU part ready. The technician will thoroughly check everything to make sure you have a working washer. If there is any further information needed, please reply. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I requested a MCU for my model # and I received an email from manage my life that the MCU is: PART NUMBER: 8182697. There is a picture of the part but it doesn't look the same as the MCU under the front left side of my washer. Is it possible the plastic housing is of a new design or they shipped me the wrong part? They refer to it as: "electronic control". My model is: GHW9400PL4

A:

You are correct, that part is not the MCU. It looks like they are sending the electronic machine control or central control unit (CCU) which is discussed above. The part number for the motor control unit (MCU) is 8182706.
