Question and Answers

Q:

How do I change the touch pad membrane on my Whirlpool Microwave, model # GH7155XHS-1?

A:

I know how important it is to have a good working microwave in the home so that you can reheat your food at the touch of a button. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. I strongly suggest that you have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. I have provided a link To Sears Home Services if you decide to schedule service. If you think it may be cost effective to just replace the unit, I have also provided a link to the Microwave section of Sears.com to price out what a replacement would cost.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having problems with your microwave. Because of the extremely high voltage a microwave generates and can store even when unplugged, we do not give repair information on them. We strongly recommend having a service technician replace the control on microwave. I hope you understand we do not want a customer getting serious injured or worse. We will gladly give repair advice on all other appliances. You can have the microwave repaired at your home by a Sears technician. A:

The relay in the control may be stuck or the sensor. Microwave ovens inherently store 10,000 volts or more even when unplugged which can cause serious bodily injuries or could be fatal. For this reason DO NOT attempt to diagnose and repair your microwave yourself.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your microwave. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you Scott. I am not opposed to a technician but the cost may be not worth the price of a new microwave or just not using the lights. Home visit $125.00 Part if needed $100.00 New ???
