Q:

Could a thermal fuse cause a total lack of power supply to the my gas dryer? If not, what could it be in order of a checklist?

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the dryer is totally dead and no lights on the control panel, it is not the thermal fuse. A faulty thermal fuse would prevent the dryer from starting but the control panel would still power up and program.

If the control panel is dead, the voltage supply to the control board will need to be measured and confirmed. The voltage to control board is measured across the black wire at P1-5 and white wire at P1-2. If 120 VAC is measured then the failure is most likely the control board but it could also be a faulty touch panel too. I added two images below to use in order to diagnose if the control board or control panel is faulty. NOTE: I do not recommend making any voltage measurements unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so; otherwise I highly recommend calling a service technician to properly diagnose and repair your dryer.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.

Hi Alyssa,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

This issue is most likely caused by a bad motor, belt switch, or friction issue. Make sure the drum will turn by hand. You need to begin by Activating the Diagnostic Test Mode. I am including the tech sheet for this dryer in the images below. The diagnosis of this issue will require the use of an ohm/volt meter and you will have to perform ohm checks and/or live voltage checks. If you have an ohm/volt meter and are confident in your technical abilities, please utilize the checks below.

Here is a Video that demonstrates disassembly of a dryer like yours. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. The dryer in this video may not look exactly like yours, but the procedure is basically the same.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or to purchase any parts needed; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. Check the things I have covered here, and if I may be of further assistance, include more details in a reply to this post.
