Thank you for your question.  I am sorry you are having a problem with your Whirlpool GEQ8811PW0 dryer. 

Caution: Before attempting any repair, unplug the dryer from the wall. 

Some models did have a screw on the side towards the back of the heater housing.  You will have better luck removing the drum so you have more access.   The image below may be helpful to you.  Note the position of the belt around the idler pulley before removing.  You can reply below with any additional details or questions for further assistance.  You can also have the problem repaired in your home by a Sears technician.  Here is the link for that:  Sears Home Services Dryer Repair .

Thanks, Fred. I found that I just had to pull really, really hard to get the element out. It required vice grips and somebody to hold the dryer in place.Your instructions helped. Thanks
