Question and Answers

Why does the freezer keep frosting and where is the timer located?

The timer is built into the control board (# 18 in picture) at the bottom of the unit. This board can be put into a diagnostic mode to help determine the problem. To put it into a diagnostic mode, turn both control knobs to the off position. Now push in the door switch and turn the refrigerator control knob to position 1. The displays will show the revision level and in approx. 6 seconds it should be in the diagnostic mode at step 1. Rotate the refrigerator control to advance through the steps. Step 2 will be the defrost mode. If the bi - metal is closed the defrost heater should come on. In a few minutes you should be able to hear some hissing and popping from the ice melting on the element. If you do hear this, the control board # 2304095 will need to be replaced. If nothing happens some resistance checks of the element and bi-metal will need to be made. This test should be done when the freezer is cold so the bi-metal should be closed. To check the bi-metal and heater, the back panel in the freezer will need to be removed, which means everything in the freezer will need to be taken out. First disconnect power to the unit and when the back panel is off and you can see the evaporator, disconnect the heater and bi-metal. Now check the resistance of each part, to see which one is open and needs to be replaced. To get the unit out of diagnostic, unplug the power cord for a few seconds and reconnect it. If you need more assistance, please resubmit your question, with additional details.
