Question and Answers

Q:

refrigerator door closure

A:

Thank You for contacting ManageMyLife.com

I can understand how annoying that can be when the door doesn't close all the way. This is a simple fix. There are two plastic cams that sit on the bottom hinge that is responsible for closing the door. These cams do wear down over time. You will want to replace both Upper and Lower cams. I have included a link to our PartsDirect page where you can purchase the part you need to complete your repair. Just click the blue link below to be taken to the page.

Lower Cam for Model GD5SHAXLT01

Q:

Ice dispenser motor for a whirlpool refrigerator

A:

I know how important it is to have a good working ice dispenser so that you can easily get ice cubes from your refrigerator. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a link that describes a similar problem to the one that you are having. I hope my link is useful. I also suggest you look in your owners manual for more information about your problem I hope my link is useful.

I provided the wiring diagram for your refrigerator in the first image below. There is not a fuse in that circuit. I recommend that you unplug the refrigerator and check the wiring connections. You could have a switch failure in the dispenser circuit. The second image shows how to access the switch assembly on a similar model. Once you remove the drip tray, you will probably need to pry the cover off of the dispenser. Cover the tip of your flat tip screw driver with masking tape to prevent scratches on the front of the freezer door. Push down on the top of the dispenser cover and pry out on the bottom of the cover with the screwdriver. Once you snap off the front cover, you should be able to access switches in the dispenser.

This information should help you determine the cause of your dispenser problem. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Good job. I found the problem thanks to your directions. The control bracket itself is broken. The little white prongs that hold the switch in place have somehow broken off. It appears I need to replace this bracket. Will this be as easy for me as replacing the motor was? Or should I call a service man. I didn't take it off the door to see what the wiring looked like behind it. Jim

You may be able to complete this repair yourself since you were able to replace that motor. I provided the parts diagram for the dispenser in the image below. You can take a look at this diagram and determine whether you want to proceed. Don't forget to unplug the refrigerator before accessing internal components. If you already removed the cover, you can remove the control bracket by taking out the two screws (Key 22) that secure it in the dispenser housing. I recommend that you take digital pictures of the components before you remove any thing and long the way during this repair so that you can replace the parts properly. If you can remove the bracket assembly, you may be able to complete this repair yourself. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website using the link I provided in the above response. If you want to have a service technician complete this repair, you can schedule service using the Sears Home Services link that I provided in my first response. If you need more help, reply with additional details (and pictures if necessary).

Q:

What part do I need to replace to fix my ice maker overflow problem, Whirlpool refrigerator model number GD5SHAXLT01?

A:

There is a fill adjustment on the ice maker module. The image below shows how to adjust it. This may fix your problem.

If that does not help, you could have a failed inlet water valve. If the water constantly flows after the ice maker cycles, then you may need to replace the inlet water valve assembly.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details
