Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your garage door opener not closing the door. We are here to help. Cold weather does have effect all garage door openers. It is not unusually to have to slightly increase the force during the winter and decrease during the summer. If the force has to be increase a lot, most likely there is a door problem. Since you have the same problem with the door disconnected, I recommend you apply a light coating of white lithium grease on the rail. This way the trolley will move smoother along the rail. If that does not correct the problem, the cover needs to be removed. After the cover is removed, check for a lot of plastic shavings. If there is, the gears need to be replaced and the door spring needs to be tested. To test the garage door spring, just open the door manually waist high and let go. The door should stay in place. If the door slowly closes the spring needs to be adjusted. The spring supports the door not the opener. I hope this helps.
