Q:

how to open GC5SHGXLS00 Whirlpool Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about accessing and cleaning the coils on your Whirlpool refrigerator model GC5SHGXLS00. I will be happy to help you with this. I have included the link below for you to view the owner' manual online in case you don't have a copy.

SAFETY WARNING: Before cleaning the coils on your refrigerator be sure to disconnect the power supply to the refrigerator to prevent the risk of injury from electrical shock.

Under the refrigerator cleaning section (starts on page 15), the manufacturer states in paragraph 5 (page 16), that the condenser coils do not need routine cleaning. You can however access the condenser by removing the base grille from the bottom, front of the refrigerator. Once you have removed the toe grille, use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush to clean the grille.

You can also access the coils by removing the cover on the back bottom of the refrigerator. You will need to pull the refrigerator straight out from the wall. Be sure you do not pull the refrigerator beyond the plumbing connections. Remove the access cover at the back, bottom of the refrigerator. Once the cover is removed you will be able to access the condenser coils. The best way to remove dust between the coils is to use a coil brush designed for that purpose. (I have included the link for the brush in case you don't have one.)

Vacuum up the dust the brush removed from the coils. Once you have cleaned the coils, replace the access cover. Move the refrigerator back into place and then be sure to reconnect the power supply.

I hope this answers your question. If you need further assistance, please resubmit your question with additional details. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.
