Whirlpool Gold Refrigerator making odd sounds when using cold water on demand feature.

A:

Thanks for the information about your refrigerator model GB2SHTXTB00; sorry you are experiencing a problem with the water system, I will be glad to assist you. The sound you are hearing could be caused by several things; here are some areas to check.  First I would suggest that you remove the filter and use the by-pass that came with your refrigerator. If there is a restriction in the filter or if there is an air pocket it could cause noisy dispensing.  Next if the water tank has ice in it there could be noise caused by water trying to by-pass the ice. Try applying gentle heat to the water tank (use a hair dryer) and see it makes a difference. And last there could be noise coming from the water inlet valve. This noise sometimes is described as a banging sound. Sometimes turning the water supply off then slowly back on but not all the way can stop this if the issue is your water pressure to the refrigerator. If this does not stop the banging sound, the valve would need replacing. I hope this helps you, if you need additional help reply with more details and I will be happy to respond. If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services. Here is a link to Sears Parts Direct. Thank you so much, Ron. It appears to have been the filter. I'm not sure if there was an air pocket or if the filter was faulty, but a new filter has returned the refrigerator water-on-demand feature back to virtually being soundless. I appreciate your quick attention to my problem. This is an awesome site!
