Question and Answers

freon leak FRS6LE4FB5 Frigidaire Refrigerator

Thank you for contacting with your questions about your Frigidaire refrigerator. I am so sorry to hear it has a Freon leak and that the condenser motor is going bad. I understand wanting to compare your options between repairing this unit and putting the money towards a new one. I will be happy to help you with this.

When the repair man looked at the refrigerator, did he give you an estimate of what the repairs would cost?  I would start by looking at the cost to fix this refrigerator versus the cost of a new refrigerator. I have included the link for you to view the new models available from Sears.

Refrigerators from Sears.

Have you already had the Freon leak fixed? You mentioned that the ice maker was not working when the Freon was low. Since the ice maker is now working, does that mean you have had the leak repaired? If you have already paid to have the Freon leak fixed, then replacing the condenser motor would definitely be worth the repair. The part, with shipping is about $118.00.

If the leak has not been fixed, then you will need to take into consideration the cost of the parts needed for the repair and the labor charges. Depending on where the leak is located, you may need to replace the compressor ($150+), the evaporator ($145+) and/or other parts of the refrigerant system. Because of the dangers poised by Freon, the leak must be repaired by a licensed technician.

I hope this helps. If I can be of further assistance, please respond to this thread. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.
