Question and Answers

Q:

How do I replace the water actuator on a 2006 Frigidaire side by side refrigerator model number FRS6L9EFSS0?

A:

The parts list diagram of the dispenser is shown in the image below. To access and replace the water actuator in this refrigerator, follow these steps:

  • Unplug the refrigerator to disconnect electrical power.
  • Remove the drip tray (Key 23) from the dispenser housing.
  • This should reveal three screws in the bottom of the dispenser cover. Remove these 3 screws and then pull the cover out carefully and unplug the wire harness connection on the back of the touch panel at the top of the cover. NOTE: Some models do not have the 3 screws at the bottom of this cover. If you do not see screws, you will need to pry out of the cover to snap it off of the front of the freezer door. Cover a flat tip screw driver tip with masking tape to avoid scratching the door and pry out on the cover at the top to release clips that hold the cover to the door.
  • Remove screws that secure the dispenser module (Key 8) in the housing (do not remove the control board -- Key 38). You should find 2 screws that secure the dispenser module in the housing. These should be below the control board on each side of the housing.
  • Be careful when you pull the module out of the housing. Pull it out slowly and not the way that the water line is routed. It will need to be replaced properly. Also, there will be wires that you should be able to leave connected. Try not to unplug any wires that do not need to be disturbed. Pull the module out and turn it around carefully to access the water actuator. Unplug the wire harness for the water actuator from the control board.
  • Remove the screws that secure the metal tabs that hold the water actuator in the housing.
  • Remove and replace the water actuator.
Reverse this procedure to reassemble the dispenser. Make sure that the water line is routed properly. Test the dispenser after reassembly.

These tips should help you replace the water actuator in this type of refrigerator. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.
