Q:

refrigerator problem with ice dispenser

A:

Ice has become such a necessary convenience, it becomes more of a priority to keep it functioning. The first place I usually check is the owner's manual for my fridge, just so I don't overlook the simpler fix. I see that on page 16 of your manual it deals with stuck cubes. It also has some other information so I attached it to the link below if you have not already checked. If it does turn out to be more of a repair and you would like to schedule a technician, an option is Sears Home Services. I added that link as well. Hope some of this helps while you wait for the expert.

Having a dispenser is nice but when it fails can be very frustrating. If the dispenser won't do anything, I recommend first checking the freezer door light (interlock) switch. If this switch fails, the dispenser will not work. To check this switch, first disconnect power to the refrigerator and now pry the switch out. When the switch is out, connect the black and red wires together. Make sure these wires do not touch anything and reconnect the power cord. Now activate the dispenser and if it works, the switch # 241547901 will need to be replaced.

If the water still dispenses, it indicates the door switch is ok. In this case, a voltage check will need to be made on the purple wire from the freezer door. If the wires come out under the door there will be a wire harness to place the meter lead into. If the wires come out on top of the freezer door, you will need to remove the hinge cover, to access the harness. In either case, check from the purple to the light blue wire. Do not disconnect the harness connection. All wires and harness connections must still be in place, when making this voltage check. Making voltage checks can be dangerous and unless you are confident, that you can safely make this check, I recommend having a technician out, to check this. If you do make this check, when the dispenser is activated, there should be 120 volts from the purple to light blue wires. If you do have this voltage, then the auger motor has probably failed. It's possible there could be a wiring problem in the cabinet but it's not very likely. If there is no voltage there, the problem will be inside the dispenser. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Which diagram is the one that shows the outside levers? I could not decide because on the one for the freezer door, it did not show how the levers were attached. Did I miss something on this? I do appreciate your email.
