Q:

Frigidaire range control panel

A:

I know that repairs on appliances can be difficult to deal with, especially ones that are fairly new. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I was able to do some research on the range. The warranty will not cover this repair, and it is not likely that the seller or the manufacture will do anything about it. I also checked on the parts for this model, but did not find a control board or a membrane, just knobs. I would suggest that you check the model number. Any of these parts are easy to replace, and is something you can do. I hope this helps.

You can call Frigidaire at 1-800-944-9044 to see if they will offer you any help with this problem. Since the range is out of warranty, it would be a rare exception if they help you with a discount on parts or service.

Your failure could be in the membrane keypad (part 316549105) or the electronic control board (part 316562002). Both of those parts are fairly expensive (over $100). If you want to try and fix this problem yourself, I recommend that you unplug the range and check the wiring connections between the membrane key panel and the electronic control board in the console. You can remove the upper back panel of the range to access the back of that control board and check those ribbon wire connections. Caution: The metal edges on that back panel may be sharp. Protective gloves are recommended during this repair.

Check the keytails of those ribbon wires for corrosion. You can normally clean the ends of those keytails with a new pencil eraser (that is soft). If you clean the connections and plug them in securely, there is a slight chance that this will fix your problem without needing to replace parts. If that does not help, you may consider replacing that membrane keypad. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website. Make sure that the range is unplugged when you are accessing internal components.

These tips may help you fix this failure on your own. If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will try to assist you further.

Keep in mind that Sears could also complete this repair. You can check out the Sears Service pricing on this website: Sears Home Services .

NOTE: Attempting this repair yourself should not jeopardize any help or concessions that you may receive from the seller or the manufacturer.

I purchased this Frigidaire range FPGF3081KFC and had issues with the touchpad within warranty. The service technician didn't replace the part, but reattached/cleaned some wires. Since that time, we have had repeated issues with the touchpad, most recently requiring that I get service again for the problem. Now the technician says the membrane needs to be replaced. What kind of shoddy production /repair is this that you cannot replace or manufacture a product that doesn't require service calls every 6 months? I will be sure to post your lack of responsiveness to all the forums on the web where people are posting complaints about THIS SPECIFIC PRODUCT DEFECT. And I will make sure that I use all of my online and offline networks to ensure that the name FRIGIDAIRE is synonymous with SHODDY workmanship and CRAPPY customer service.

Lyle, thanks for the number. I had already called Frigidaire and got no response for this recurring issue. Just wanted everyone else to know that it's a total waste of time to expect any action. Calling MIGHT get them to put this on a recall list, but if you want to document the problems, just go to their customer service page and put in a complaint there. At least it will be sent into cyberspace and you'll feel good about pushing a button. Or you can just let everyone you know know about your experiences so they purchase some other company's products in the future.

Hello again Michelle. I have already forwarded your feedback to our product engineer hear at Sears. Even though that is not a Kenmore range, Sears sells the Frigidaire line. The service levels on appliances are constantly monitored. If there is a design or manufacturing issue that is causing your frequent failures and the problem is widespread, then I am sure that it will be addressed. It normally takes some reasonable amount of time for that type of issue to be resolved. In the meantime, we are always ready and willing to help you with this or any other appliance issue. We often provide repair advice and can usually determine whether there is a widespread common problem that can be addressed or fixed on appliances. Thank you for posting your concerns about the failures that you are experiencing with this model of Frigidaire range. I will update that thread if any new information is released regarding that model.

OK, I have same issue. I've noticed there is a new part number for both the membrane and control unit (5304476749). However it is very expensive. The membrance is available by itself (316549105). So, currently. None of my buttons work but I do have power going to the control board as the time is displaying and flashing. So, do I need to replace the unit, or can I just replace the membrane? This has been an ongoing problem. In the last couple days, I had detached the 2 ribbon cables, used contact cleaner to clean the terminals and cables. Then I lightly trimmed the ribbon cables. Reinserted back into the terminals, and now no buttons at all work. But, still have time display as I stated earlier.

Q:

I have a new Frigidaire range FPGF3081KFC. What is the "upswept cook top" made of. What should I use to clean it?

A:

I spoke with a nice man at Frigidaire who advised me the cook top of your range is tempered porcelain that has been cured in a 1500 degree oven. The cleaning agents recommended by the manufacturer are; basically any non abrasive cleaning product. The burner grates may be cleaned with abrasive or non abrasive cleaning products.
