Q:

SE code on frigidare model fmv158fmb fmv158fmb

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your microwave. Upon researching model fmv158fmb; The SE error code indicates that you have a stuck key on the control keypad or a failed electronic control board. A technician will need to diagnose and repair this type of failure. Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. Internal high voltage components can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. A microwave shielding test must be performed on the unit to detect any possible radiation leakage following any internal component repair. These are the reasons that I recommend having a technician service the microwave.

I trust this information will help you, we appreciate your business thank for choosing Sears.

Q:

This model microwave just put up a code -SE-. What does that mean? FMV158FMB Frigidaire Microwave

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your questions about your Kenmore Microwave. We do not give advice on repairing microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged from the outlet. You need special equipment to work on a microwave starting with an anti-static wrist strap grounded to the microwave to even test components in it. Even minor door repairs and adjustments can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service.

For these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair completed by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME (1-800-469-4663). Here at SearsPartsDirect.com we love to help you with your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous for a do-it-yourself project. Thank you for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.

First try resetting the unit by disconnecting it from the outlet or by switching off the designated circuit breaker for 20-30 minutes, then restore the power. You can also try testing out the outlet by plugging in a lamp or toaster to see if it is working properly. If the outlet and circuit breaker are okay, then you could have a number of different component failures that could prevent the microwave from working. The parts list diagram for this model isn't showing any fuses however, the unit has interlock switches, transformers, an electronic control board and a magnetron that could all prevent the microwave from working.

These internal component failures within the microwave must be diagnosed and repaired by a service technician. Internal capacitors in the microwave can retain an electrical charge even when the unit is unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed using proper equipment following any internal repair. I recommend calling a service technician to repair the microwave if the outlet is working properly. This is an issue that can most likely be repaired. Depending on the parts needing to be replaced, you could be looking at a rough estimate of $280-$300, for labor and parts. Service can be scheduled at the following link: Sears Home Services
