Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. I regret to hear that you are having issues with your trimmer and do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number FL20C and there is no adjustment on the choke for your trimmer. I suspect the engine is drawing air from somewhere other than through the carburetor. Be sure the gas in the trimmer is mixed properly and is less than 5 weeks old or has fuel stabilizer added. Check the carburetor mounting screws and the carburetor adapter for looseness. Check the fuel lines for cracks or rubbed places that might be leaking air into the system.  First, make sure that the fuel mixture isn't older than 5 weeks old. If it is, replace it with a fresh mixture. If this does not help I suspect there is a problem with the fuel system. I recommend checking in the fuel tank first. When you look in the tank, you should see a fuel line with a white filter attached to the end. Then inspect the fuel line. If it is hard and brittle, it has to be replaced. If the fuel line is fine, then the carburetor will be at fault. The carburetor will have to be cleaned with carburetor clean. If this does not help then it will need to be replaced. Before you remove the carburetor, make sure to note the fuel lines and cable connections. This will save a lot of frustration later when reassembling.  If you have further questions please resubmit your question for further information.
