Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't the oven light on my Frigidaire gas range even though the igniter glows?

A:

The most common failure causing this problem is the igniter even though it is glowing. When the igniter heats and glows, its resistance normally decreases enough to allow the proper amount of current flow through to the bi-metal disc on the safety gas valve. When this bi-metal disc heats up enough due to the proper current flow, it will deform to pop open the gas valve for ignition. The amp draw needed for this to occur is at least 3.2 to 3.6 amps. A technician will normally measure this amp draw through the wire in the ignition circuit with a clamp-on ammeter. If you have this type of tool, you can measure the amp draw through this circuit. If not, I recommend that you call a technician to measure this amp draw or try replacing the igniter to fix the oven.
