Question and Answers

Q:

Freezer too warm FFTR1814LW2

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you're having with the increasing temperature within the freezer. I know how frustrating that is.

The refrigerator will typically have a normal temperature of 37 degrees F. The freezer is normally at 0 degrees F. Ice cream would be firm but could be easily scooped at this temperature. Placing a thermometer between bags of frozen vegetables is a common method of accurately measuring freezer temperature.

This rise in temperature is most likely caused by the defrost cycle if everything else is okay. (No other noticeable conditions) The defrost timer will cycle like a clock and when defrost is initiated the heater will come on and defrost the evaporator coils. This is normal operation and keeps the unit cooling properly.

There will always be a temperature rise when this process occurs depending on food load. The more load in the freezer the less affect the defrost cycle has. I would suggest using plastic water bottles, once they have frozen solid they will serve as insulation for freezer compartment and help maintain freezer temperatures during defrost. If you have room in freezer section, try starting with two one gallon plastic milk jugs.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
