Q:

How to install (replace) the Splash tub of the washer Model # FEX831FS2 FEX831FS2 Frigidaire Laundry center

A:

Hello, glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is problems in replacing the parts.

Glad to help out.  I’m looking at your Frigidaire Laundry Center model number FEX831FS2.

How to change the splash tub:

1.   Make sure the washer is unplugged from wall or power turned off at breaker.  Make sure you also turn off the water lines and disconnect the hoses from the wall valve.

2.  Right below is a picture of the top and front panel that will need to be removed.   Key number 1 shows the screws that are at all 4 corners of the top.   Remove the 2 screws at the lower bottom, Key number 41.
Picture of the top and front sides that needs to be removed.

3.  First need to remove the control panel.   On both ends of the panel is the end clips.  They are either screwed on at the bottom front or need to take a putty knife and push in on the front bottom clip to release.  Same on both sides.   Then just push the control panel a little forewards then backwards.

4.  Disconnect  the lid/safety switch wire connection, then unclip the retainingclips that hold the top body to the frame with a flat head screwdriver.

5.  Remove the top and body frame from the washer.

6.  Unclip the hose from the tub. Pull the hose off.

7.  Remove the agitator by remvoing the cap #1 and be careful with the seal #2 right below it.  Pull the agitator traight up and out.  There are 5 screws below the agitator and need to remove them.

8.  Pull outer tub out.

9.  In upper picture, remove the screws #14 and lock plate #15.

10.  There is usually a spanner nut on the shaft sticking up in the middle that the agitator hold to.  Undo the nut.

11.  Remove the upper tub seal by pressing in on the clips.  Just pull up on the locking tabs.  Usually around 8 locking tabs so make sure  you get them all.  Then you can take the top cover off.

12.  Lift the inner basket out.  Tap the drive block up and off the shaft with a hammer.  Best to put some wd-40 on a rag or towel.  Wipe around the bottom of the shaft so the outer tub will slip up and out easier after you remove the screws #51.

13.  Remove all the hoses at the bottom.  Remove the brace screws #51 on the picture above.

14.  Lift up the outer tub and then when putting the new tub back in.   Just do things opposite as you did taking them off.

Good luck.

Thanks for contacting manage my life about your washer model FEX831FS2; sorry you are having a problem. When the washer does not agitate there can be many reasons causing this type malfunction. It would be very helpful if you could provide more details about the operation of the washer. When the timer is set to the wash cycle, what exactly does it do, fill then stop, wont fill at all, are there any sounds coming from the washer when it is not agitating or does it sit quietly? Does the time advance by itself to the spin cycle or do you have to manually advance the timer? If you could reply to these questions it would help me to help you better. If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.Ron H.

Hi Ravi, based on your description of the washer function I would not suspect the time at all, I suggest that you inspect the agitator, it sound like it is slipping. You can remove the cap on the top of the agitator and pull the agitator off to access the agitator hub; it has ridges /splines to grip the agitator. Inspect the agitator for worn splines and if it is okay see if the hub is worn and not gripping the transmission shaft, replace as needed. If you find these items to be okay I suspect a problem inside the transmission and this will be very costly. Ron H.

Hi Ravi, On your unit I am not sure of the rotation, suggest you check the motor rotatio in the wash cycle. Internal transmission issues can only be seen with disassembly of the transmission. Ron H.
