The explanation linked above does not seem to pertain to my situation. My problem is not getting the agitator apart from the washer; the cap simply screws off and the plastic part can be lifted. It is the space available to get it out of the washer as the lid only opens about 45 degrees due to the dryer on top of the unit (see image attached above). How do I fit the agitator part out and get a new on to fit in? Thanks

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The agitator should be able to be removed with the washer top in place. You may not have much working room to grasp the bottom of the agitator to pull it off but you should have enough room to pull the agitator out. You may need to lean the tub forwards in order to completely remove the agitator.

I added an image below with the instructions for removing the top and the front panel if you need more room to remove the agitator. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Unplug the washer to disconnect electrical power. You can remove the front service panel using the procedure shown in the first image below. You may find that the outer tub seal is leaking. That seal is shown in the second image. The procedures shown below may help you access and replace the seal to fix the leak in your washer. If the outer tub is cracked, it could also cause the leak.

You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
