Q:

Why did my Frigidaire range heating element wire burn out from the connector after changing it 6 months ago?

A:

We normally recommend using only the manufacturer supplied replacement parts on an appliance. Without being able to view the short that occurred, I cannot predict that the failure was caused by the generic replacement parts. If you spliced the surface element wires from the switch to the new disconnect with connectors other than the proper ceramic wire nuts, then the short could have occurred at these wiring connections. Using regular wire nuts or electricians tape to splice in this type of wiring connection would eventually result in a short due to the heat build-up through the wiring melting the tape or the regular wire nut. I recommend replacing the element and disconnect with the manufacturer supplied parts and that you use the proper ceramic wire nuts to splice in the wires.

You can order the parts from the Sears PartsDirect website. Use your full model number to access the parts listing for your range and order the correct parts.
