Question and Answers

Q:

I'm replacing a thermostate in a Fridigidaire electric range. Do I need a new element at the same time? The oven heats unevenly and temps go up to high.

A:

Sometimes a thermostat can be calibrated to work properly again, if it's not too far out of range. If you replace the thermostat, no the heating element will not need to be replaced. The element has nothing to do with over or under heating. For more specific information, a complete model number will be needed.

Scott D. Thank you for your information. Calibrated, that sounds a lot less expensive than a $170.00 replacement part and labor fee. The range is a Frigidaire, Model # FEF316WGSD . Is calibrating the thermostat something that is easy to do? Something I could do.......if I knew where the thermostat was?? Or is it something that only a professional who deals with applicance repairs would be trained how to do? I do thank you for your reply and any and all input. This home care stuff is very expensive and there is only one pay check taking care of everything and that pay check doesn't seem to stretch very far.
