Q:

Why won't my dishwasher timer advance past the rinse cycle?

A:

It's not likely a timer failure. (See images below) I think the the high temperature rinse thermostat is not sensing the temperature of the water. If the rinse thermostat does not close; the timer will not advance. In order for the water to become heated the pump must be spraying water up in order to cascade down and over the heating element. The heater is above the water line so if there is not enough water to spray out of the spray arms or the pump is not spraying the water will not be heated.

Make sure the thermostat are firmly pressing up against the tub.
