Question and Answers

Q:

freezer upright collecting ice inside

A:

This appears to be a drain problem. The ice will need to be cleared out first and then the top section of the freezer will need to be cleared, so the back drain cover (see picture # 112) can be removed. With the cover off you will have access to the drain trough (# 110). Now remove the ice that is probably built up in the trough and you will have access to the drain hole. You will need to clear it with hot water and then use a probe, such as a long thick wire (12-14 gauge) to fish down the drain line (#29). With a clear drain, it should stop the ice build-up inside. If you need more assistance, please resubmit your question, with additional details. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Safety Notice: Be sure to disconnect the appliance before performing any troubleshooting procedures. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks or repairs that might be recommended, please contact a local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.

Q:

frigidaire freezer lots of ice is collecting inside freezer on second shelf. ice is coming out of the vent and is very thick

A:

Without a model number for your freezer, it is difficult to advise you regarding this failure.

If the ice that you are referring to is frost, then you could have an air leak into the freezer. Frost is caused by a leak of warm, moist air into the freezer. Check the door gasket for a loose spot or a crack. Make sure that the door is closing properly.

If the door is sealing and closing properly, I recommend that you resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your freezer. We will be glad to help you further once we receive additional information.

Model # is FCFS201LFB2 this is an 19.53 cu ft RZR upright SS the inside back of the freezer has a metal backing that goes from the top to the second shelf then has wire big mesh. The ice - not white frost but thick mostly clear ice that piles up about 1 to 2 inches thick and covers proably 1/3 of the shelf. The top fan hasa few ice drops but the bulk of the ice seems to coming from bottom of metal sheet. It has frozen several food packets to this ice pack. The door seal seems to be fine. When i close the door it takea awhile before I can reopen it because of the seal/vacuum.
