Thanks Carmen, I had already found the manual, but it is just a user's guide. The other link was not for my model. But I appreciate the effort. I think the bottom line is that I really will have to take the whole machine apart, but I hope to get some guidance on how to do it.

Thank you for your question on the replacement of the power cord on the machine.

First remove all the attachments on the back of the handle area. Then remove the upper water tank and locate the two screws that go through the body and the handle assembly.

Please do not loose the nuts for the screws as you loosen them. Then you should be able to pry up on the handle to remove and then access the power cord strain relief and cord.

Then loosen and remove the screws for the front and back of the lower handle. Once you have the screws removed you can split the two halfs open to get to the power cord connectors and the wire harness.

I hope this will help.

Thanks, Sam, I had that much figured out, but the handle will not split more than 10 or 15 degrees because it is still tied together at the pivot bearing at the bottom. It seems that the handle includes sleeves around the axle that extend under parts of the frame. They too have screws in them, but they seem to also be strongly attached besides the screws. What am I missing? Is the handle supposed to separate from those sleeves that trap it?

Thank you for the update on the carpet clean cord repair. It you cannot get enough space to remove and install the new power cord you will need to remove the top cover on the base and remove the right and left cap pivot retainers . There should be only one screw on each side that holds the bearing sleeve for the two halfs of the lower handle body. Once you have them removed you and remove the bearing sleeves and finish splitting the lower housing in two. Sam A.

You can probably replace the cord yourself. I am sending you some images showing how to take some Hoover Upright vacs apart.

If these instructions don't work on your carpet cleaner, reply with the model number of the carpet cleaner and we will try to get the instructions you need.
