Question and Answers

Q:

What would cause the brushes from spinning on my Hoover Steam vacuum/shampooer?

A:

Without knowing the model number and additional details I will not be able to provide any model specific information or troubleshooting information. You did not indicate if you hear the drive motor operating that causes the bushes to rotate or not. If the motor is not running it could have a motor failure, switch failure, loose wire connection or a broke drive coupler.

Resubmit your question with the model number and additional details for model specific troubleshooting instructions.

I am having the same problem with my Hoover Steam Vac (Model F-7223-900); Maytag Legacy. The lint filter is clean; brushes are clean; do not hear drive motor operating. Other than brushes not rotating, steam vac works fine.

I am sorry that it has taken so long to respond to your thread. Thank you for your question on the steam vacuum brushes not turning. The usual reason for the air turbine not turning the brushes is that the air intake filter for the air turbine is plugged Turn the unit over and locate the filter which usually is a bright color different from the base. It pulls down will need to be cleaned. If the filter is not built up with carpet fuzz and dirt then you will need to remove the brush drive unit by locating the plastic retainer clips and releasing them to remove the brush block assembly. There is a drive shaft that slides into the air turbine motor that drives the brush block. Check to see if the drive shaft is broken. If it is then the brush block will have to be replaced. Please let me know what you find out. Sam A.
