Hi,

Thank you for your question. It is concerning when the refrigerator is not functioning correctly. From the sound of what you are describing the bimetal is opening up early. The bimetal are usually set for 45 or 50 degrees.
When power is applied to the heater it will start melting the frost and ice on the evaporator coil. This take somewhere around 20 minutes, if the heater drops out, there is a incomplete defrost and it will build up over a few days and the temperatures inside will start to raise.
