Q:

ice maker

A:

I understand your concern toward your ice maker not dropping the ice since this will keep your ice maker from making another cycle of ice. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a link that will provide you with more information about what may be causing your problem. I hope my link is useful.

Having an icemaker is a great feature but can be very disappointing when it doesn't work. The information you have received is very good but to access and check this icemaker, will be more difficult.

Check the blinking led light, it can be flashing a code that will indicate a problem. If it flashes 2 times pauses and continues this while the door is open, its normal. Now disconnect power to the refrigerator. To check this icemaker, slide it out, so the front cover can be removed, to access some test terminals. There is a clip located on the back right corner of the icemaker that will need to be removed, to slide the icemaker out. There will be a screw at the bottom of the clip holding it. Im sending a picture with instructions to remove this clip. With the clip removed, slide the icemaker out and remove the front cover. You will now see the test terminals, which are marked (see picture). Now remove the 3 screws holding the receiver board on the right side and disconnect the harness from the board. Place a jumper between the black and black/white wires (see picture). Now use a second jumper and place it between the L V terminals on the module. Reconnect the power and with both jumpers in place, water should now flow to the icemaker (be prepared to catch water from the fill tube). If water does flow, the icemaker # 2198597 will need to be replaced. If no water flows but you can hear a humming noise, the water valve # 4389177 will need to be replaced. If nothing at all happens, some voltage checks will need to be made. I hope this will help you.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem or doing any voltage checks yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . If you need more assistance additional details will be helpful.

Safety Notice: Be sure to disconnect the appliance before performing any troubleshooting procedures. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks or repairs that might be recommended, please contact a local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.

Hi - I'm having same problem with my Kenmore 106.53532300. I understand the control/ice maker is made by Whirlpool. Water is not entering the mold automatically. When we force it in (manually, or via jumper cable), we find the ice cubes sitting on top of the mold the next day, but not enough to fall into the bin below. So it seems the heater and mototr worked enough to get the cubes on top of the mold, but somewhere along the way, something is not functioning properly. Let me know if you find a fix.

If the icemaker is cycling but the cubes are not falling into the bin, it will indicate the icemaker is not cycling properly. This could be a problem with the ejector and the motor. Usually replacing the icemaker # W10190965 will correct this problem. It's available at the link listed below. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

A:

I understand how inconvenient it is to have the ice dispenser latch break on your refrigerator. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a useful link in where you can enter your model number and all of the parts on from your fridge will pop up. I hope the link is useful.

Here are some tips that may help you resolve this type of problem:

  • Check the water dispenser to see if it is working properly. If the water dispenser does not work, check the dispenser lock to see if it is enabled. If it is, turn this feature off and this may fix your problem.

  • If the dispenser is not locked and the water dispenser does not work then I recommend that you open the freezer door and press in on the light switch for the freezer door to make sure that the freezer light is turning off properly. A bad freezer door switch could prevent the water dispenser and ice dispenser from working.

  • If the water dispenser works, then you could have a problem with the switch on the ice dispenser. This link for a previous answer describes some basic troubleshooting for this type of problem: Is there a switch that could be bad in this dispenser? NOTE: Unplug the refrigerator to disconnect electrical power before accessing internal components.

These tips may help you fix the problem with your ice dispenser. If you need more help, submit additional details and we will try to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
