Question and Answers

Q:

Water pooling in bottom of freezer ED5JHEXTQ00 Whirlpool Side-by-side refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your refrigerator. Upon researching model ED5JHEXTQ00; it sounds like the drain tube is clogged by a frozen section in the tube. When the drain tube freezes the water starts accumulating on the freezer floor and then freezer and also causes a leak. To unfreeze the drain tube you will need to turn the unit off, disconnect the refrigerator and remove everything that can spoil and place it in a location that holds the appropriate temperature. You will need to remove the back panel (at the back of the wall) in the freezer section and access the drain hole on the floor, with a hair blower you can melt the ice clogging the drain tube and reassemble everything.

I trust this information will help you, we appreciate your business thank for choosing Sears.

Q:

icemaker housing ED5JHEXTQ00 Whirlpool Side-by-side refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I understand how frustrating it can be when water leaks from the ice maker. Based on your symptoms, it sounds like your water valve is not closing properly, allowing water to keep entering the unit even when the ice maker is not ready to cycle. If you have an ohm meter and are comfortable with using it, you can test your valve to make sure it needs replacing. I have included images below for resistance measurement on your valve. If you are viewing this response on Sears PartsDirect and are unable to view the image, copy and paste the following web address to a seperate internet browser:
