Question and Answers

Q:

Water filter question ED5FHGXKT02 Whirlpool Side-by-side refrigerator

A:

Thank you for contacting Sears. I will be more than happy to assist you with your Whirlpool refrigerator.

I can understand the frustration of your refrigerator not functioning properly, after researching model number  ED5FHGXKT02. It would appear to be a filter problem. However, before returning the new filter, first put the old filter back in and see if the water flow increases or if it's still slow. If it increases, return the filter for a new one. If the pressure is the same, the pressure to the refrigerator will need to be checked. A technician will probably be needed to make this check. The recommended pressure is 35 - 40 psi. If it's below 35 psi the water pressure will need to be adjusted.

I hope you found this information useful. Again thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business, have a great day.

*Safety disclaimer before you try and repair the unit make sure the power supply is disconnected. There may be sharp parts to the unit that can cause injury to you if not careful. The part number 4389177 water valve is the correct valve for your refrigerator. The wiring should work fine. Put the small terminals on the solenoid with small male terminals and the larger terminals on the solenoid with the large terminals. If you get water from the dispenser when you push the cradle, every thing is ok.

Most all water valves use the push in tubing connections now. Cut the tubing off so you have a good square cut and push the tubing into the new valve. Your replacement valve should work fine.
