Question and Answers

Q:

WHAT CAUSES HOLLOW CUBES AND A DRIP LEAK IN THE FREEZER?

A:

Maybe the repairman was referring to the water valve, since there is no timing valve on a refrigerator. It's possible the water valve could be causing both of the problems you are experiencing. It's also possible the icemaker could be causing both problems. Another possibility is, if the freezer temperature gets too cold (below zero), the icemaker can cycle prematurely causing hollow cubes. You can check the freezer temperature by placing a thermometer between some packages (air temperature is not a good check).

As for a drip, the only place water can drip in this freezer is at the icemaker. Water could be splashing during the fill cycle, the cup could be leaking or maybe the mold is leaking. This can be checked by cycling the valve at the icemaker. To make this check, you can pull the front cover off of the icemaker and you will see the module. The module has some test terminals on it (I'm sending you a picture) to make this check. Place a well insulated jumper between L-V and water should flow into the icemaker. Watch the water flow to see if it splashes or if you can see a water leak. If you need more assistance you can resubmit your question with more details.
