I'm sorry you are having this problem. The information you have received is good but this is a slightly different problem. I suspect when you say, you're turning it off and on again, that you mean you're turning the thermostat off and back on. If it works again by doing this, it indicates the contacts inside the thermostat are getting stuck. In this case, the thermostat # 2198202 will need to be replaced. It's available at SearsPartsDirect . If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful and I will be glad to assist you further.

A:

Based on this latest information, this would lead to a defective defrost timer (# 6 in picture). Now, it could mean that the contact inside the thermostat is getting worse and stays stuck. The next time this refrigerator won't start, turn the timer knob, which is located in a small hole, under the control housing. If it starts now, the timer # 482493 will need to be replaced. If it still won't start, then it will lead back to the thermostat. Unfortunately, there is not a manual to troubleshoot this refrigerator. I hope this helps you.

Q:

Why won't my whirlpool refrigerator Model #ED25PEXHW01, ice maker make ice?

A:

There are a few different possibilities that can be keeping the ice maker from working.

  • The ice maker itself could be defective
  • A defective water valve
  • An open diode

If the ice maker does cycle check to see if it will fill with water. To cycle this ice maker remove the front cover and turn the small gear to advance the ice maker. If it won't cycle replace the ice maker. If it does start, watch it till it gets almost to the end for the water fill. If it does fill, again this will indicate a defective ice maker assembly. If it won't fill then it could be the water valve or the diode. A technician will have the equipment to check the diode. If you need more assistance you can resubmit your question with more details.

I know it's frustrating when the icemaker stops working. The information you have received is good but does not pertain to this model. This icemaker has some test terminals on the module that may help determine what the problem is. To access the terminals, pull the front cover off of the icemaker. The terminals will be marked (see picture) and using a well insulated jumper, place it between the L - V terminals. Be careful this is a hot (live) check. With the jumper in place, water should flow to the icemaker. If water does flow, the icemaker # 4317943 will need to be replaced. If no water flows but you can hear a humming noise, the water valve # 2206123 will need to be replaced. If nothing at all happens, some voltage checks will need to be made. A technician may be needed to make these checks. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . If you would like more assistance, additional details will be helpful and I will be glad to assist you further. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Scott, I jumped the L-V check points and no water ran nor did the solenoid kick into play. I did, however, hear a hum so from your expert opinion I would reckon that the faulty part would be the inlet water valve. Ordered the inlet water valve today. Should arrive 2/14. It's a good thing I don't have an urgent need for ice. Hope it takes care of the problem.
