Q:

Craftsman Air Compressor 919167240 will not power on.

A:

Having your air compressor not working properly is very annoying. While you are waiting on an expert to answer your question, a suggestion I have is to visit Sears Home Services website to set service with a Sears technician. I have attached the link below. Hope this helps!

The manufacturer has stopped production on the pressure switch for your compressor. They do not have a substitute for it at this time. I have been told that part number N002119 will work on your compressor but I do not have any way to verify this or not.

You may also try taking the pressure switch to somewhere like Grainger to see if they can match it up for you with a universal type switch.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

Hi Wade, On the compressor topic I have a 12 gallon upright model# 921.166400 Its in great condition had the foam around it during the winter storage did not get wet at all kept real clean, fired it up for the spring, note it's been drained of all moisture on valve at the bottom. I went to turn it on and it just works up to 40 psi on both valves? I tried checking the adjustment on the switch side nothing works it stays at 40 psi? Is my regulator shot? or need to replace both? I appreciate your help Wade. Thanks, Ryan

@Ryan: When it gets to 40 PSI, what happens? Unit just continue to run and not build pressure or does it shut down?

I'm afraid there's not a diagram available for the switch. The manufacturer considers the pressure switch to not be serviceable by the user and because of that, they do no publish that type of diagram. I'm going to look and see if I have a model like this and if so I will come back and post a photograph of the switch.

I'm not able to locate a photo or a switch for me to be of much help to you. I spoke with the manufacturer about this and they stated if you've taken the switch apart that it cannot be used anymore. It is precision made to certain specifications and if the switch has been taken apart then it is no longer safe to use. They do not sell a replacement pressure switch for this model any longer. You may need to check with someone like Grainger to see if they have a switch that will replace yours (a universal fit). Otherwise you may end up having to replace the compressor.
