Unfortunately, I was unable to bring up any information for model DU980QPDG3 that you provided. I did however find models DU980QPDB3 and DU980QPDQ3 on our parts website. I would recheck your model number to make sure its correct. The manuals are no longer available for this series of dishwashers. In general, the 3rd level spinner sprays water down on top of the upper rack. If the upper rack is not cleaning I recommend checking the middle spray arm where it connects to the rear feed tube for proper alignment. Check the middle spray arm for any clogged holes.

Here are some other things to check for. There could be several different problems that prevent the dishes on the top rack from being cleaned properly:

  • Check the spray arms for cracks or splits. Check the spray holes in the arms for clogs such as hard water deposits. The holes can be cleaned with a toothpick if necessary.
  • Make sure that the top rack is pushed in fully so that the upper spray arm docks properly in the inner feed tube at the back of the dishwasher tub.
  • Check the water fill level in the dishwasher. Allow the dishwasher to conduct the initial fill. Crack the door open to stop the dishwasher as soon as the filling stops and before the spray starts. Open the door and look at the water level in the tub of the dishwasher. The water should be within 1/4" to just touching the heating element in the bottom of the tub. If it is too low, try adding some water manually with a container and see if the spray coverage on the top rack improves. If it does, then you could have a water supply problem, a clogged inlet water screen, a bad water fill valve or a control board problem.
  • Check the water temperature. Run the hot sink tap for 1 minute and then fill a glass with water. *Measure the temperature of the water in the glass with an accurate thermometer. The water temperature should be about 120 degrees. If not, you may need to adjust your hot water heater.
  • A clog or obstruction in the chopper blade assembly portion of the sump area has been known to cause problems with spray coverage in this type of dishwasher. If you are technically inclined, you can shut off the breaker to the dishwasher and follow the procedure in the image below to access and check this portion of the sump. Removing a clog or obstruction in this area may resolve your problem.

These tips may help you fix this dishwasher problem. Thank you for choosing Manage My Life!
