Q:

What is wrong with my model DU810DWGQ1 Whirlpool dishwasher when the dishes are coming out with a film?

A:

There are usually two sources of film on the dishes and the first thing to do is try to identify which type of film you have.

If you have a glass with film on it then first simply put it under water and rub the film with your thumb. Dry the glass and see if the film is still present. Soap film will rub off. Soap film can be caused by excessive suds/soap in the water or a poor drain cycle.

The other type of film is caused by minerals/calcium in the water supply. With this film if you put it under water and rub it may appear gone but when the dish dries the film is still there. Mineral film can be difficult to eliminate. You might also notice the heating element. If it is white then there is a good chance you have a mineral film.

Soap film can be a mechanical fault of the dishwasher but mineral film is about what is in the water. Over time it will built up in the dishwasher and affect the spray arm rotation and cleaning ability.

White-vinegar can be used to clean glasses with film. Put the filmy glasses in the dishwasher and run a rinse only cycle. After the fill add a cup or two of White vinegar and this will clean the glasses.

There is also a commercial product call Dishwasher Magic WX10X10200 which will clean mineral film from the entire dishwasher. You can obtain some from the following link: Sears PartsDirect .

There are no particular filters that might cause this problem but there is a funnel and check ball that might prevent a complete drain and leave soap in the rinse water. Make sure the dishwasher is draining completely. You can run a rinse only cycle and see if you notice any suds in the water.

I hope this information is helpful to you but submit another question with any additional details for further assistance.
