Question and Answers

Whirlpool DU8000XR1 dishwasher won't run in reverse to pump water out. Sometimes it works however. Runs fine in forward direction.

The dishwasher not working properly can be an inconvenience and keep you from getting the dishes cleaned. I am adding a link below that describes a similar question. I hope this helps while you wait for your expert response.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

In order for the motor to start and run in the drain direction, there must be 120 volts supplied to start winding (drain) and 120 volts to the run windings.

This symptom will require measuring voltage. I do not recommend measuring voltage unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so. One voltage meter lead will need to be connected to W-V (white wire with a violet stripe) and leave it there. The other meter lead will need to be connected to the start (drain winding) which is the GY (grey wire) when the timer is advanced to the drain cycle. Voltage (120) must be present across both the W-V and BU-W and W-V and GY in order to start and run. It needs start voltage and run voltage in order to run in the drain direction. I added an image of the wiring diagram below and I traced the drain circuit in red and green. If the voltages are not correct then it may have a timer issue. If the voltage is correct, I suspect a faulty motor.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
