Question and Answers

Dishwasher leak

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The leak could possibly be caused by a bad sump seal or it could be the pump seals leaking or if it has metal tub, it could have some rust holes along the inner lip of the opening and sump seal.

In order to be sure, the pump/motor assembly can be pulled up through into the tub. You will have to remove the drain hose and the check valve/drain hose fitting from the pump. The check valve/drain hose fitting is threaded on. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the motor and pivot 4 locking tabs away from the center and then the pump/motor assembly can be lifted up and out from inside the tub. After remoing the pump/motor assembly, inspect the opening for any rust holes. If there is no rust, and you do not see any signs of water leaking down from the motor shaft, replace the sump seal and see if continues to leak. It's not likely leaking past the sump seal but it is possible. The water leak is generally leaking past the pump seals below the drain impeller.
