Question and Answers

Q:

Why are the dishes on the top rack of my dishwasher coming out dirty?

A:

Here are some tips that may help you resolve this problem:

  • Check the upper spray arm for cracks or splits.
  • Make sure that the upper rack is pushed in properly and that the upper spray arm manifold is docking properly in the inner feed tube at the back of the tub.
  • Check the water level in the bottom of the tub of the dishwasher. Start a cycle and crack the door open when the filling stops. Open the door and observe the water level in the bottom of the tub. It should be within 1/4" to just touching the bottom of the heating element. If not, then you may have a water pressure problem or restriction in the fill line. You can reverse the installation instructions to access and check the water fill line and the inlet water valve. Here is a link for the installation guide for your dishwasher: Installation Instructions .
  • A clog in the chopper blade area of your sump can inhibit the water pressure through the spray arms. The image below describes how to access this area in your type of dishwasher. Your dishwasher may be slightly different than the one shown below. The feed tube in the back of your dishwasher tub will likely be secured to the tub with screws instead of clips. The rest of the procedure should be the same. If you can access this area of the sump, you may find a clog in the chopper blade area that is causing your problem.
These tips may help you resolve the cleaning problem on your top rack. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.
